Last Friday we held our St Patrick’s Day Am Am Shotgun and although the morning’s weather tried hard to put players off, by the afternoon it was sunshine even if it was very cold and blowing a hoolie! We had a great turnout for what turned out to be a fantastic day of golf.
In 3rd place was the team of Alex Ironside, Paul Quayle, Stephen Lester and Paul Daniels with a solid score of 80 points. Ahead of them in 2nd were Mark Pugh, Roy Norman, Alan Gault and Brian Horne with 84 points.
However, taking 1st place and bragging rights for the year was the team of Adrian Marsh, Craig Drummond, David Wilding and Andrew Davies with an incredible 86 points. Not many people saw 86 points being achievable given the weather conditions so it was a great performance.
A big thank you to the 52 members that supported the event, it was a great atmosphere on and off the course and back in the Clubhouse everyone enjoyed Irish Stew and maybe a drop of the black stuff afterwards!
For the 2nd week on the bounce Saturday’s comp was a washout so Sunday’s Pro Shop Open Stableford was well supported with 32 players signing on in the cold but bright conditions.
Martin Hall won with 39 points ahead of Rodger Clague who scored 36 points. Steo Caley was in 3rd after a countback with 35 points which was helped considerably by his hole in one at the 17th with an 8 iron! The drinks were on him obviously, congratulations Steo.
Last Thursday the women played a team match play with the Lady Captain’s Team against the Lady Vice Captain’s Team. The Captain’s Team won 5 – 3. That evening was their annual Spring Supper which was greatly enjoyed by all who attended and presentations were made for last season. The Most Improved Golfer 2018 was Carole Sutherland with a handicap reduction of 4.6 over the year. Ladies Club Winner of the English Golf Union Medal 2018 was Barbara Monk who returned the 4 best scores in the Monthly Medals with a total 4 best nett scores of 269. Finally the Annual Eclectic 2018 was won by Ruth Pigott.
Next week sees the start of the season after a long winter. Tuesday evening is the Juniors welcome evening at 6.30pm where you can meet the new Junior Committee and hear about the exciting ideas for the new season. All existing junior members are very welcome along with potential new members and parents, grandparents, guardians and other family members. No previous golf experience is necessary as coaching will be given and some equipment available to use. Refreshments will be provided.
Wednesday is the first Clubnight of the season. You can enter the comp at any time during the day but from 3.30pm is Clubnight players only on the course. It’s a 10 hole medal to break you in gently and the kitchen will be open into the evening.
It’s not quite shorts and flip flop weather yet but it’s surely just around the corner! Have a great week.

Cook/Chef (Full-Time)
If you have experience as a cook/chef, or are willing to learn and have enthusiasm for fine food and service, this may be the job for you. In addition to daily lunch service and a weekly 3 course carvery, we cater for almost everything; golf parties and afternoon teas, themed nights, large corporate events and weddings. And we’re always planning something new!
The position is full-time, on average a five day working week, which will include some weekends and spilt shifts. A successful candidate must be able to work with fresh ingredients, multitask and work under pressure.
Rate of pay dependant on experience.

We’re looking for hardworking individuals to support our busy kitchen. The role is physical with duties including; pot washing and cleaning, in addition to assisting our chef in the preparation of fresh food, in many different types of service.
In addition to daily lunch service and a weekly 3 course carvery, we cater for almost everything; golf parties and afternoon teas, themed nights, large corporate events and weddings. And we’re always planning something new!
The position is part-time, though full-time may be available to a successful candidate. The hours are shift-based, and will include weekends and some spilt shifts. Candidates must be able to work under pressure, as part of a team, and most of all take pride in their work.
